Student Visa Services
Under the Simplified Student Visa Framework (SSVF), there is only one visa subclass for students and one for student guardians.
- Student visa (subclass 500) for all international students
- Student Guardian visa (subclass 590) for guardians of international students.
A student visa allows international students to pursue full-time studies in accredited courses in Australia.
At Opal Migration Australia, our experienced Migration Agents specialise in assisting students in obtaining visas to study in Australia. We also provide support for family members seeking to accompany you. It's crucial to receive proper guidance on selecting the appropriate visa for your family, as visa conditions may affect your desired lifestyle in Australia.
To qualify for a Student Visa, you must first gain acceptance into a registered full-time course offered by an Australian educational institution. The Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS)Â provides a comprehensive list of available courses. Our team understands that each student has a unique narrative, with aspirations and passions shaping their academic journey. We work closely with students to understand their dreams and goals, helping them navigate their educational path in Australia.
Main Requirements
- Acceptance to study full-time in a registered course
- Genuine intention to stay in Australia temporarily
- Financial capacity to cover living costs in Australia:
- Tuition fees
- Travel costs
- Living costs
- Financial capacity to be able to support any visiting / accompanying family members
- Proficiency in English: Result of English language tests like IELTS, TOEFL, and PTE.

We assist you in obtaining an Australian student visa. Australia offers boundless opportunities for education, regardless of age. Contrary to common belief, having a gap in your overseas studies does not disqualify you from obtaining an Australian visa. As long as you are a genuine student and meet the requirements, we will represent your case diligently.

Family Members' Visa Conditions
Family members of student visa holders must also meet certain conditions:
Family members of student visa holders:
- Once the primary student visa holder commences their course of study, they are typically permitted to work for up to 40 hours per fortnight, subject to individual visa conditions. However, if the main student visa holder is enrolled in a master's or doctoral course, they may work unlimited hours.
- Individuals who are 18 years old or older are generally limited to studying for a maximum of three months. Should they wish to pursue a course of study lasting longer than three months, they must apply for their own student visa.
- If school-age family members, children aged 5–18 years, accompany the student to Australia for a period exceeding three months, they are required to attend school. The student is responsible for covering any associated education or tuition costs for these children.
- Children of the student who are aged 18 years or older cannot be included as family members on the student visa application. They must apply for their own student visa if they intend to study in Australia.
Temporary Graduate Visa
The Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) enables students who have completed higher education in Australia to remain in the country and work for a duration ranging from 18 months to 4 years, depending on the nature of their studies. Applicants must be in Australia at the time of application and visa decision. There are two streams available:
- The Graduate Work stream is for international students with an eligible qualification related to an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL). Visas in this stream are granted for 18 months.
- The Post-Study Work stream is for international students who graduate with a higher education degree from an Australian institution, regardless of their field of study. This stream is open to students who applied for their first Australian student visa on or after 5 November 2011. Visas in this stream can be granted for up to four years, depending on the applicant's qualification.
